Estia Health Melton South welcomes Archbishop Peter for heartwarming visit

Our team's passion for creating special moments for our residents led to this heartfelt event. The idea originated when Patricia, one of our dedicated Enrolled Nurses, approached Sue, our Lifestyle Coordinator. Knowing how touched our residents would be by the Archbishop’s presence, Sue reached out to St Anthony’s Catholic Church who happily confirmed that Archbishop Peter would visit to anoint and give Holy Communion to our Catholic residents.

On the morning of June 22nd, Sue, along with our team, thoughtfully prepared for the visit. Setting up the home’s activity room with two tables adorned with white tablecloths and Catholic ornaments, a gold-framed cross-stitch of The Last Supper prominently displayed, and a red carpet laid down the centre of the chairs, creating a reverent and welcoming atmosphere.

Upon arrival, Archbishop Peter and Father Alex were warmly greeted by Melissa, our Residential Aged Care Manager, and Sue. Melissa gave Archbishop Peter an introduction to our home, highlighting the close-knit community and dedicated care provided to our residents, then guiding Archbishop Peter and Father Alex to the beautifully prepared area where everyone eagerly awaited their arrival.

Archbishop Peter made a deeply personal connection with each resident, warmly greeting everyone individually with a handshake and kind introduction. A touching moment occurred when Maria, a resident from our Memory Care Unit, was moved to tears of joy. She tenderly held and kissed the cross worn by Archbishop Peter, deeply expressing her gratitude. Afterward, Maria warmly embraced Sue, thanking her for orchestrating this special visit.

Donning his ceremonial gown, sash and cap, he led the group in heartfelt prayers and invited everyone to join in The Lord’s Prayer. Naim, from St Anthony’s Church, further enriched the occasion with soulful music from his guitar. Archbishop Peter proceeded to anoint our Catholic residents and offered blessings to others, filling the room with a profound sense of peace and joy.

Archbishop Peter’s visit continued beyond the group setting. He expressed a desire to see residents who were unable to attend the ceremony. One resident, Richard, a distinguished architect who has received an Order of Australia, was profoundly moved by the Archbishop’s visit to his room. Richard, known for his significant contributions to heritage architecture, was brought to tears by the personal blessing and prayer from Archbishop Peter. Following Richard's emotional moment, Archbishop Peter continued his rounds, visiting two more residents in their rooms to ensure everyone who wished to receive a blessing had the opportunity.

Residents shared their gratitude with Sue through hugs and heartfelt thanks, their touching reactions illustrating the profound impact of Archbishop Peter’s visit. This beautiful occasion brought immense joy and spiritual comfort to our residents at Estia Health Melton South.
